Griffin Nation FAQs

What is a booster club?

The basic definition for booster clubs is an organization that is formed with the goal of supporting a specific department or cause, such as a sports or drama program in a school. What a booster club does, in some ways, depends on the program being supported, but generally, booster clubs strive to organize fundraising and volunteer their time in an effort to enhance the performance of their activity or extra-curricular program. Providing enthusiastic emotional support for a team or program is another purpose of a booster club.

Athletic booster clubs have the general function of assisting, promoting, and supporting all athletic programs that are active at the lower school, middle school, high school, or university level. Primarily, athletic booster clubs are to assist with fundraising opportunities, to help manage donations and other funds, promote the attendance and spirit at athletic events, and to encourage the involvement of parents and students during athletic department activities. An athletic booster club should also promote students to be mindful of the balance between academics and athletics. The major goal of an athletic booster club is to provide funding to support quality, interscholastic athletic programs while also providing athletic scholarships for students. Additionally, athletic booster clubs have the responsibility of encouraging participation in sporting events within the student body and community as a whole.

Can anyone join the Griffin Nation Booster Club?

Booster clubs are comprised of student families, businesses, community members, teachers and staff.  No one is required to join the Booster club; it is an individual/family choice.

What is this new Griffin Nation? How is it different from the old Griffin Nation?

The new Griffin Nation is being organized as a non-profit, outside organization called Griffin Nation Athletics Club. All efforts under this new organization will be in support of Lake Mary Prep athletics.  All donations will now be tax deductible. This new organization will have the operations, marketing and oversight to support volunteer and fundraising efforts for LMP Athletics.  The old Griffin Nation was mostly for families to receive season passes for athletic events.  The goal of the new Griffin Nation is to support significant enhancements to athletics including equipment, facilities, programs, etc., to redefine and reshape the athletics experience for our athletes and families for years to come.

Can the Booster Club purchase equipment for the school?

No.  The school is responsible for the purchasing of all equipment associated with the specific athletic activity.  This procedure ensures that the products purchased meet Florida High School Athletic Association, National High School Federation and school system standards. Further, school purchasing ensures quality control as well as protection during warranty periods.

What is the role of the Head of School in the Booster Club?

The Booster Club Board is comprised of the Head of School, the Director of Athletics, the Booster President, Booster Vice President, Booster Secretary and Booster Treasurer. The Head of School has final authority over the existence of and all activities of a booster club. The Head of School reserves the right to recognize and sanction a booster club’s involvement in extra-curricular activities including fundraising. Only the Head of School may allow the booster club to incorporate the school’s name. The Head of School must approve all content and publications that a booster club sends to parents and/or the community.
